Small Craft to Participate in
Port Townsend Opening Day Parade and Blessing of the Fleet

Saturday, May 5, 2018

The Port Townsend Opening Day Parade celebrates getting out on the water regardless of size of craft or method of propulsion.

Hosted by Port Townsend Yacht Club and the Northwest Maritime Center, all boating organizations and boaters are invited to participate. The organizing committee asks that all participants fill out the Boat Information Form (see below) so that the announcer on the NWMC pier (see chart) can properly identify those participating as they pass the pier.

Schedule and Activities

Small craft lead the parade, departing about 12:15 PM from City Dock. They will gather off City Dock at the foot of Madison Street by 12:10 PM. Small craft instructions are posted here.

Note: If you decide to participate at the last minute, and have not filled out the Boat Information Form, below, just check the Small Craft Instructions linked above for details and come on down.

Larger boats will gather west of the Washington State Ferry Terminal off Port Townsend Boat Haven. They will depart at 12:30 PM (after the Washington State Ferry departs). The route is along the Port Townsend Waterfront, terminating at the Maritime Center Pier. After passing the pier, they will turn to starboard and hover offshore of the parade route.

Blessing of the Fleet takes place at the end of the parade, about 1:45 PM, at the Maritime Center Pier. Vessels with other commitments need not await the blessing.

Note: Wind and sea conditions may impact the timing of the parade and the level of participation. Skippers are responsible for the safety of their vessel and crew.

Launch Ramp and Parking: Trailer launching at Boat Haven (use fee $10/day – annual pass $100).

Hand launch at the Northwest Maritime Center or at Point Hudson. In addition to boat-trailer parking at Boat Haven, parking near the NW Maritime Center is available in the lot beyond SEA Marine at the end of Jackson Street.

Viewing the parade:Although the parade can be viewed from any waterfront location along Water Street, the reviewing stand will be on the Northwest Maritime Center Pier. An announcer will describe the boats and organizations as they pass, and the blessing of the fleet will take place from the pier.

Opening Day Boat Information Form:Please download and complete this form. Three versions are provided below. Note: We realize participation depends on the weather, especially for those in small boats. Thus, submitting a Boat Information Form in no way obligates anyone to participate. Completed forms should be sent to the addresses on the form.   .pdf    .doc    .docx
